Christian culture has a big problem with yoga. To them it's a gate to the fires of hell. Its roots in pagan Eastern religions are the main problem. Even though Easter and Christmas are pagan festivals that Christianity incorporated as worship traditions, Christian culture is convinced that yoga is a trap to lure you into Satan's jaws. Where there could be room for God in the gaps, they tend to assign those gaps to the demonic. You know, just to be safe.
This sermon sums up the evangelical take on yoga. And I quote: "If you sign up for a little yoga class, you're signing up for a little demon class. That's what you're doing. Satan doesn't care if you stretch as long as you go to hell." Well that oughta cut down on evangelicals stretching, lest they hurtle down the slippery slope into eternal damnation. Maybe you'd better not do Pilates either, just to be sure.

I don't think you understand the videoclip you posted.
Driscoll isn't critiquing yoga-- he's critiquing pagan yoga.
Driscoll would obviously have no problem with meditation and reflection upon your own sin and the savior. He's taking issue with specifically the pagan aspects of yoga... connecting to the universe, etc.
Then how come he didn't specify pagan yoga? He said that Satan doesn't care if you take a stretching class as long as you're going to hell. Didn't say secular stretching class.
I have listened to quite a bit of clips from Driscoll, and I think people give him far too much credit. He literally means not to do yoga. There is no "pagan" mentioned. That is what Driscoll does. He gives literal messages for his followers to follow so that they do not have to think for themselves.
I know this post is old, but I just now watched this. So anything Eastern is demonic? Even chanting?? What if Im an Eastern Orthodox Christian who chants? I guess the "original" Christians were demonic after all.
Im so glad we have people like Driscoll to inform us of true Christianity and help us stay on the right track.
Don't confuse a Christian with Jesus' teachings. Mark is a great Christian. But that doesn't mean he is following Jesus or His teachings. Jesus came to free us from religion. The last time God came to earth it was the rule mongers (anti-yoga) that killed Jesus.
So is Mark Driscoll okay with Christoga? He didn't mention that and after watching him I can't think for myself anymore, or at all, really.
I really don't get Driscoll's point. How can yoga be demonic? Is it just because it's from an Eastern culture? It is people like this that cause more Christians to lose faith everyday.
"The kingdom of God is within"... did a Hindu say that? maybe it was a Pagan.
This is sometimes such a superficial blog. It picks out interesting and funny things about Christian culture, and then goes nowhere with it except make fun of it.
Though some, with certainty, insist, no certainty exists! I think we all should be careful to jump to conclusions.
Peace homies.
